Newent Success at Schools National Fishing Competition
Newent Community School's B Team have achieved a fantastic second place in the Schools National Fishing Competition. The competition is open to all schools in the UK and this year saw a total of 30 teams from 22 schools entered. The competition was held at the Daiwa Hallcroft Fishery in north east Nottinghamshire with teams consisting of 5 anglers fishing a four hour match. The competition was won by Valley School from Worksop who also won the competition last year.
The Newent B team were; Liam Parker, Ed John, Connor Barber-Starke, Ben Arkell and Mike Reynolds.
The A Team came a very respectable 10th in a field of teams dominated by the North of England with many fishing on their home turf.
Mention should also be given to Jack Davies and Ben Arkell who won their respective sections.
The Young Anglers Project grew from the involvement of Rob England with Newent Community School. The relationship between members of YAP and the school have continued over the years. A weekly school angling club is run and regular junior matched are held. For several years the school has entered teams in the Schools National Fishing Competition, this year achieving their best ever result.
